Can you take glowsticks in the water?
Sure. Glowsticks get their gleam from chemiluminescence (a chemical glow), not from electricity, so they're completely safe to take in the water.
In fact, divers often take glow sticks with them on dives, especially dives involving caves. The pressure doesn't affect a glowstick's light, so they're fine for serious dives as well as for playing around in the swimming pool.
How should glowsticks be disposed of?
Like most plastic items, glowsticks aren't recyclable. However, the chemical residue that's left after your glowstick has finished glowing isn't toxic, so you can dispose of used glowsticks the same way you dispose of plastic containers from cosmetics or cleaning supplies. Keep them out of reach of dogs and kids, since they might look fun to chew on.
